Ponds For Kids

Ponds for Kids is a nationwide pro-active program that strives to bring natural beauty and waterscapes into the school environment as part of an enrichment type curricullum.

Would you like your school to host your very own Ponds for Kids program?
Aqua Fx by Island Land Care is a part of a national not for profit program called Ponds for Kids. This program helps students design and build organic, naturally balanced aquatic ecosystems for schools around the nation.

The benefits for participating schools will include:

• It serves as hands on science classroom (biology, ecology, botany, ect.)
• It serves as an art classroom projects (inspire painting, nature settings)
• It certainly enhances your schools landscape.
• It will inspire English classes (prose, poetry)
• It’s a great place for students / faculty to connect with nature, throughout the day.
• It’s an exciting P.R. Event for your school by the local media.

Events:

• 3rd Event: Bethpage High School, Spring '05

• 2nd Event: Smith Haven Mall, July 31, 2004

• 1st Event: May 22, 2003 - Mount Sinai Elementary

The day was a huge success with all the children anxious to help. We of course donated our time and labor for the day to make the project happen. Ponds for Kids is a nationwide pro-active program that strives to bring natural beauty and waterscapes into the school environment as part of an enrichment type curricullum. Students at Mt. Sinai helped our Staff throughout the day, and really had lot's of fun doing it. From speaking with some the teachers and staff, there are some activities planned that will bring the pond in as a focal point, including some creative writing assignments, and reading programs. We were very greatful to be able to provide this opportunity to the school and the students. It was a real joy for all of us! And of course each student went home with a certificate of completion.


 

Some things you should know:

• Ponds for kids, is not a freebie.
• However it is a not for profit project. So nobody makes a penny profit from it.
• The school’s cost is usually around $2,600 to $3,200 depending on the size. This is usually is absorbed by a parental booster club or a fundraiser, which we could arrange.
• Our contribution is a day of staff, time, and expertise, and yes we can finish in one day!
• The school students provide the elbow grease needed and they truly enjoy it!
• Teachers and Administrators will get a chance to speak with local media during the event, which love the whole hands on educational phenomena.

Aqua FX has commited themselves to doing only two ponds this upcoming year and it is based on a first come first serve.
